Overseeing financial control in the credit union
The credit union treasurer is key director responsible for the ”general control, direction, and management of the affairs, funds and records of the credit union” and is the lay ‘Financial Controller’ on behalf of the Board. It is often the role that most directors are loathe to fulfil. The day to day tasks performed by a credit union Treasurer will vary according to the size and operational requirements of the credit union but responsibilities remain the same. Whilst the credit union may employ someone to carry out the day to day tasks responsibility for financial control remains with the Board of the credit union.
